Liverpool has its two stars Football - Champions League

For the receipt of Marseille at the 5th day of Champions League, Liverpool will rely on its two stars, Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres. A very bad news for Marseille enlightens as the duo play the Reds this season even if they have been aligned together 11 times.

Marseille drew the jackpot. Since October 5 last 10 matches all competitions combined, Rafael Benitez had never been able to align its entrance two stars. Each time, its Spanish striker, Fernando Torres, its iconic player, Steven Gerrard, could not accompany his companion near the green of England because of various injuries. During this long period of time, however, concluded by five wins, two defeats and two draws, the Reds have been less flamboyant than the beginning of the season. Lack of opportunity for OM: the two leaders of the Mersey club will be well go for the shock of the 5th day of C1.

Absent for many weeks because of an adductor injury, Torres came back last week and was established this weekend against Fulham (0-0). A match where the absence of Steven Gerrard has been sorely felt: "We have not played well, we did not have enough energy and our passing game was not good," Benitez had analyzed in After this void. This corresponds perfectly to the qualities of English, real conductor capable of rameuter its troops even in bad times. And this is not the AC Milan who say the opposite after the final of the Champions League in 2005.

Both will be part of the deal with Marseille. And - except for the show - is anything but good news for the Olympians. For Gerrard-Torres is clearly the winning ticket in Liverpool. "As coach, I do not like players out of the lot, but Gerrard and Torres have written something like 54 goals between them since they play together. It is clear that these are two important players for us," concedes Benitez. But how could it be otherwise?

The figures speak for themselves effect: all competitions combined, Gerrard, who signed a double victory against OM to go (1-2), is the top scorer of the Reds season with 7 goals (in tied with Dirk Kuyt) in 17 appearances, before Torres, 5 goals in 15 matches. Better still, Benitez was able to play all eleven times since the beginning of the year 2008-2009 for a review of 9 wins and two invalid. That speaks volumes about their impact. "Last season, the agreement between Torres and Gerrard was really good and he began to have signs that it is improving this year," said Benitez. Marseille is not polished.
